Sunday August 21st
We were all going over to the Long Beach area on the Pacific coast, so we took the truck to give us a bit more room.  The road across the mountains was as narrow and bumpy as always, but it was nicer to be driving it without a trailer on.  However, after all those Alaskan miles, I was still driving as if I had it on, so it was slow going.   We had rain in the mountains, but it was dry by the time we reached Wickaninnish Beach.  Stewart was surfing, I was taking pictures, Sandie was knitting, and Karen was hot on Evan ’s heels as he headed for the water.

FAMILY VERSION

Later we drove to Ucluelet, where Stewart needed to talk to an electrician friend about how to run power from the street up to their house.  The rest of us walked the Wild Pacific trail, which has to be one of the best seaside walks on the island.  It runs along the clifftops, overlooking the rocks, seastacks, lighthouse, and the Broken Islands (where we kayaked back in 2003).  There were eagles in the trees and whales in the distance.
