2005/08 Alaska Trip - The Island and home - Tofino |
|||||
Monday August 22nd
Karen took Evan to daycare as she usually does on Mondays and Tuesdays, and she also took the dogs to work, leaving us free to do our thing. We were heading back to the Pacific coast, this time to Tofino. But first we stopped by the Somass River to look at the Indian whaling canoe at the visitors’ centre, and while we were there Sandie spotted a bear patrolling the opposite bank. It was checking for anything edible and completely ignoring the humans on the other side. Shortly after that one disappeared into the woods, we spotted another walking through the water just upstream of us.

The two bears slowed us down a bit, but we had enough time for lunch and an afternoon in Tofino. We bought one of those crib boards for Christina. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and Tofino was buzzing with boats, kayaks, and float planes, very different from the sleepy Indian town on our first visit there about 25 years ago. On the way back, Wickaninnish was sparkling in the sunlight when we stopped for coffee.
