John found a place to build us the gas connector, but it was still not quite the same so more fitting was needed. By this time we had remembered what went where in the camper and the packing had started.
That night the Hawks, a local team, won the footie grand final and John said the streets were noisy, but we didn’t hear any of it
Sunday October 4th
Sunday was much warmer and we were now packed except for stuff that we needed in the morning. Sandie wanted to take a test drive while I was going to wait until we were out of the city and I could check out my coordination on quieter roads.
We arranged to meet John and Edna at Churchill national park, a short drive away. Sandie soon got used to the clutch and driving on the left. We met up at the park and took
off walking some of the trails; we were under electricity pylons but most of the countryside was wild, plenty of birds and kangaroos. The photo shows one wading along a flooded ditch, not a great picture but it’s unusual to see one in the water.
For us it was great to be out with the smells and sounds of the forest. Edna’s stylish picnic lunch went down well. These eastern rosellas came by while we were eating.
We walked some more, in the hills this time, and it was noticeable that the ladies were leaving the guys behind. John has trouble on hills, which is worrying; I don’t do well either but my problem is just back pain, nothing serious.
We stopped at Coles on our drive back, loading the fridge and food cupboards. We had to avoid fresh fruit and veggies as we would be crossing two quarantine checkpoints, one at the South Australian border and the other on entry to Western Australia.
The main purpose of going to Western Australia in October was to be there for the spring flowers. I’d promised Sandie that there would be plenty of flower pictures in these letters. This is the first installment, from Churchill Park.
We all went out to dinner at the Sandown Park greyhound stadium. The food was good and cheap, but the Asian group next to us was drunk and very noisy, spoiling the evening.
Back in Mulgrave, after some confusion, we discovered that the time had sprung forward on us and it was now Daylight Savings Time in Victoria.
