2015/03 Hawaii trip - Umauma Falls |
|||||
After lunch, Sandie and I headed a bit further up the Hamakua coast, this time on another section of the old Māmalahoa Highway to the Umauma Zipline. No, we weren’t going ziplining; it didn’t look anywhere near as exciting as the one I did in England, anyway. We were taking the much cheaper and less painful option to just walk through the gardens and look at Umauma Falls. As it turned out, the few zipliners were soon done and we had the place pretty much to ourselves.
The garden looked well established so our guess was that the zip line was an addition perhaps to an older garden attraction. It wasn’t as impressive as the Hawaiian Tropical Garden, but still a nice place to spend an afternoon. Umauma Falls includes three impressive waterfalls, each worth a walk to see. Umauma’s appeal though is the sum of its parts, the three waterfalls in a beautiful, forested valley, and that’s what I’ve shown here.

Back in Keaau we finally met our hostess Connie, out for her evening walk. We arranged to meet for coffee on Saturday morning.
