2015/02 Yukon trip - Plans |

Now that we are back we’ve quit monitoring the aurora forecast and the Yukon’s weather forecast, and we’ve switched to monitoring lava flows in Hawaii. Yes, we’re off again on February 24th to Hawaii’s Big Island, where we are renting a house in Keaau for a couple of weeks. For thirty years, Kilauea, the island’s active volcano, would send its lava flows towards the south coast, sometimes sizzling into the ocean. Last year the lava began flowing east and it is now only about 600 yards from the (only) road from Hilo’s airport to the town of Pahoa. Luckily we knew about this and we’re renting on the Hilo side of the flow, but it’s still good to keep an eye on what’s going on.
We’ve also booked our spring trip to England (Wed April 8th to Tue April 21st), stopping off in Minnesota until Tue April 28th.
The weather’s been warm in Hope since we returned but very very wet. This was the view of the mossy woods around Sucker Creek.
Nearby, the district has begun building this new bike trail through the woods. The fallen branch isn’t a deliberate obstacle; just a common sight in Hope since the ice storm.
We’re having a guy out to repair the railings. They look rather sad after three separate hits. We have hopes of getting our biggest tree trimmed too, but there’s a long waiting list at the moment.
Our local cormorant club looked to be really happy with this new perch, across the river from us, but they only had it for a single day. By next morning heavy rain had caused the river to rise several feet and their perch had been washed away downstream.
