2010/10 Australia trip - Archer Point and Keating's Lagoon |
|||
We’d had enough of caravan park life, so we headed a short way down the coast to Archer Point, bouncing over a road shared by the aborigines and a wildlife preserve, and probably maintained by neither. From the point we had a great view of the sea and headlands. There were a number of good sites just off the beach and under the trees, and we bounced even more on the track over the dunes.
As you can see, somebody must have insisted on staying at a powered site. The beach faced directly into the trade winds and we were absolutely pummeled, not cold but just a continual blast, very soothing with the camper rocking all night.
Wednesday October 20th
It was still windy in the morning. A herd of cows came to visit, obviously used to strolling through the campsites. It’s a beautiful spot for a campsite, but I don’t know how long I could take the wind.
The bird life there was abundant, but the stars for us were the butterflies and moths. I have pictures of a few of these, but most turned out fuzzy in the gloom beneath the rain forest canopy.
There were some small ones that just blazed an electric blue in flight, but looked
like a brown dead leaf when they rested and folded up. These were Common Oak Blues as we found out later.
