Friday March 5
Our hosts were off to work early, so we had breakfast on our own and then headed south on the Midland and Melba highways past Eildon, where Jason will be working.
Sandie was looking for a Devonshire Tea, but the world was not cooperating. A place in Toolangi advertised Devonshire Teas but then had a closed sign in their driveway. Healesville seemed a likely place and we found a café that did them once upon a time. They sent us to the Country Looks tearooms, and we sat out there on the veranda, sharing our teas with the wasps.
From there it was a pretty drive through Woori Yallock to Pakenham and thence to John and Edna’s place. Edna immediately set about fattening us up after our weeks in the wilderness.
Saturday March 6
I took an early morning run along Dandenong Creek to Jells Park. The park includes a bird sanctuary – full of (to us) exotic birds like ibis and swamp hens, but of course they are quite common here.
John took us to a discount camping place to replace our chairs, and I also picked up a replacement compass as the one in the camper seemed to have lost direction.
Phil and Lynda came over and reported that they’d had a great honeymoon on Magnetic Island after relocating to a nicer and cooler hotel room. The island is in the tropics and we remember it as being very hot even in the spring time.
Sandie was doing the washing and I was cleaning up the truck and getting it organized and provisioned for the next day’s trip over to Tasmania.
