VOYAGER VILLAGE

FUTURE TRIPS

Friday started cloudy and we took an easy day for the muscles to recover.  We headed a hundred miles east across Wisconsin’s bogs and forests to Copper Falls state park.

After all that flat land there’re suddenly cliffs and rocks, cut into by the two forks of the Bad River.  One fork of the river comes into the canyon and drops over Copper Falls.  The other fork comes in from the other end of the canyon, and runs over a series of cascades and then drops over Brownstone Falls.

The two forks meet in the middle of the canyon and then disappear down a sideways chute into another canyon.  From up on the canyon rim, it looks like the river runs in both directions and then disappears!  It takes a lot of hiking and looking to work out what’s really going on down there.

Later we hiked up to yet another part of the river to Red Granite Falls, with its pink and red canyon.

By this time the weather had changed and we had another perfect day and cloudless sky.  That night we heard lots of fireworks for 4th July but without any obligations to set up a show for the kids we just listened from a distance.
