Dear All,![]()
A couple of pictures from the England trip that I found in one of the cameras, one of the remains of the West Pier, a sorry sight after the fire, just the framework left. The other is from the Cenotaph, the name of Mum’s grandfather, Albert Spicer.
Since I’ve been back from the Philadelphia trip, I’ve told my various bosses and the team that I plan to retire at the end of January. I got a good reaction, lots of congratulations, and questions like “Who is your protégé?” Also, after some thinking, “I’m not going to deal with the stuff you have to do!” So I have to look for a successor.
For the 4th July holiday, we went up to Voyager on the Wednesday night, 2 days to ourselves, with the girls having to work, but coming up at the weekend. We had big storms that night, but had a perfect day on Thursday.
We decided to run the upper reaches of the Namekagon. We never did this before as this stretch has
about a half dozen sets of rapids. They aren’t very challenging, but not something we ever wanted to try with loads of kids, particularly other people’s kids!
We used the canoe rather than risk damaging the kayak, but in the end we only whacked one rock, mainly because the river was running fast and high. We had little time to think and steer, but we just went over most of the rocks. We spent the whole day on the river, in glorious sunshine and scenery, and then had to paddle fast to get out before dark. Sandie counted over two dozen deer sighted, as well as ducks, otter, and far too many deer flies.
