Yet again, we were tourists. We stopped at Wall Drug for a couple of hours shopping. The owner of the place got famous years ago for advertising his store hundreds of miles away in so many places that people just had to find out what Wall Drug was all about. All it really is is a tourist trap built around absolutely nothing. But, it's still very successful. The stores were packed with shoppers.
We stopped at AI's Oasis for lunch on the way home. AI also advertises his five cent coffee two hundred miles away. Crossing South Dakota, people are willing to go for any diversion!
Edna was feeling much better, but everyone feels the difference in the air, leaving the mountain/desert dryness and returning to the midwest's humidity. As we continued towards Minnesota, it was obviously more than normal humidity. Most of the fields had standing water. At Windom, the whole town seemed to be barely above the water level. I think that's where the Des Moines river starts, so it's easy to see why Iowa has problems. We also heard that our other possible route through North Dakota would have run us into trouble too, as Fargo had had 8 inches of rain on the Friday night. Luckily, this would flow into Hudson Bay in Canada and not make the Mississippi River situation any worse.
We arrived home just after midnight, after about 8000 miles including the trip up to Lake Superior.
