2018/02 Costa Rica - Night walk |
|||||
We went back to our casita to rest before our guided night walk. I conked out completely and Sandie had to wake me up; it was a scramble to get us and the cameras ready and over to the villa.
It didn’t help that my hands had become itchy and swollen up and it was hard to move my fingers. There are some nasty plants in the forest and we assumed I’d grabbed one of those. Sandie had something similar as her hands were itchy.
We met with four others and Catalina, our guide. She lent each of us a small flashlight and led us to a trail which dropped steeply into the jungle. It was difficult going and my balance is not that good these days but I was lucky and didn’t fall on anybody. My camera wasn’t much use in the dark but Sandie had her camcorder set to Low Lux and that worked quite well, so I concentrated on lighting up the scene for her.
Catalina found various frogs and lizards, spiders and millipedes and stick insects, but the stars were the red -eyed green frogs, similar to those widely seen in ads for Costa Rica tourism. My favourite though was the transparent glass frog barely visible left of centre.

Dinner was expensive but good and we were certainly hungry enough to do it justice. The white wine was an Argentine Torrontes, a label we’ll look for when we get back to Canada.
Outside it was now foggy as well as dark so we wandered a bit on our way back to our casita. It was cool enough to start the fire but we were too tired.
