We were taking off just as the cherries and a stupendous crop of strawberries were ripening.  Jim had instructions to eat everything.  This clematis had just exploded into flower too, each flower bigger than my hand.

The quilting ladies had set up their show at the Art Centre in town and had their final meeting and lunch that day, and then we were off on a warm afternoon.

Thursday June 6th
We were headed due north through the Fraser and Thompson canyons where I used to go rafting with the kids.  As usual, the area around the Kumsheen rafting resort was hot, mid-80s, with the smell of sagebrush coming off the dramatic desert landscape.  There was no stopping for the scenery though as we needed to get further north.  The road eventually leaves the river and heads up towards Prince George.  We met John, one of our neighbours while filling up in Cache Creek.

North of there we were mainly in the forest, cooler with spots of rain.  We had a call from the Mounties to say that our alarm had gone off about three hours after we left, but that it looked like a false alarm from the motion sensors.  We set the alarm almost every day when we go out, but it has to wait until we go on vacation to malfunction!

We made it to Lac la Hache and took off there on back roads to Greeny Lake, a quiet and free camping spot we’d used a decade ago.  The lake is much the same, but the campground has doubled in size; just as well as we took the last spot.  It’s no longer free, but still cheap for us oldies.  Steady rain set in that evening.  The night was noisy with the trilling of loons; Greeny is a good fishing lake for everyone.
