Thursday June 28th
In the morning, Sandie refused to go back over the same road, even though we’d be on the safer inside lane, so we exited the park towards Fruita.  This still involved another seven miles of cliff edge driving and two more “drive through the middle and hope for the best” tunnels.  Sandie was very unhappy.

We headed back up I-70 through Glenwood Springs and stopped for lunch in the Glenwood Canyon, overlooking the Colorado River, a very scenic spot, but noisy with the freeway traffic.

We turned at Wolcott and headed north towards Steamboat Springs.  The road is narrow and twisty with little traffic.  We’d left the Colorado River behind at Dotsero but we rejoined it for a while at State Bridge.  This was some very scenic country, with cliffs of many colours but there were few places to pull off and enjoy it.  We were however making good time. It looked like we would be arriving in Steamboat Springs at about the time we had promised.

Most of the family was arriving at about the same time, and Michael and Lauren’s wedding was scheduled for Saturday afternoon.  We would be staying at a campground in the area for a week (a real change of pace!) and that week will be described in part five of this journal.
