2005/08 Alaska Trip - The Island and home - Englishman River Falls |

Wednesday August 24th
The ladies were off shopping and getting haircuts so I was looking after Evan and the dogs. Evan ’s latest game was running around with a bucket on his head, great to watch but not too good for his health. He’s fun to look after, but he keeps you hopping.

In the afternoon, Karen took us over the hump to Englishman River Falls, a nice shady spot on a very hot day. This is Michael’s favourite spot for leaping off the cliff into the freezing cold water, but Evan was happy to splash around in the shade. On the way back we stopped in Coombs for coffee at the Goats on the Roof. The goats are still up there and they seem to be thriving.
We came back into Port Alberni to find an apartment block on fire, blazing out of every window. We were wondering what we should do, but then the fire truck arrived and all we did was get out of their way. The block was a total loss, but luckily everyone had got out in time.
Thursday August 25th
Stewart had taken the next two days off, partly to meet with their contractor and partly to spend time with us. He was also liable to be pulled back into work if there was a problem there.
There was some hope that the excavating for the power line to the house would get done, but Stewart thought it would be postponed until the next week.
Karen was working a half day, and I was busy printing part 1 of this story, getting the truck’s oil changed, and buying food. In the evening we went out to dinner at the restaurant on the pier. We all enjoyed it, particularly Evan .
