Karen and Stewart had sold their house last year and have been renting a house in the older area while they built a new house.  The rental is a 1950s house, rather like a British council house with its metal windows.  They live on the main floor, and we had a bedroom and bathroom in the basement.  They have a good-sized garden, but the rain arrived shortly after we did, so we couldn’t sit out.  There was a new house going up right next door, so there was plenty to watch from the windows.  And plenty of hammering and sawing to listen to.

FAMILY VERSION

Wednesday Aug 17th
Wednesday started sunny, and Karen took us on a hike along a part of the Log Train trail.  I ran a marathon along another part of this trail a couple of years ago.  The trail goes through typical BC rain forest scenery, big trees, dense foliage, ferns and moss.  She took us to the beaver ponds, the old decaying train trestle, and down to Rogers Creek for Evan and the dogs to splash about.  Gracie was actually swimming – Stewart’s lessons out at Chilliwack Lake had been successful.

The hike wasn’t just a treat for us.  It’s part of Karen’s routine to take Evan and the dogs on these hikes.  However, there had been reports of a cougar in the Rogers Creek area so she was taking advantage of being able to go as a group.  One of Stewart’s relatives had seen a cougar come out of the Rogers Creek woods, cross Tenth Street, a major road, and disappear back into the woods.
