2005/07 Alaska and Back Again - Canyon Creek |
|||||
Wednesday August 10th
The day began cloudy and windy, but had cleared to a beautiful sunny day by the time we left. We could now see the mountain on the other side of the highway, and spotted three deer up high in the meadows. Although we’ve driven the road before, this was the first time in good weather and we were surprised at how scenic it is with high mountains, and large lakes. We stopped for a while at Bijoux Falls, a pretty three-step waterfall.

We got to Prince George, BC’s northern capital, just before the rush hour, and zoomed around its major highways looking for a craft store and some buttons for Sandie. Then we were off a few miles south, looking for a campsite.
We found a pretty spot at Hixon, along Canyon Creek. Just as we arrived the owner had gone out to deal with a bear that was mingling with the campers. There were two shots and the owner returned, explaining that he was now out of plastic bullets and the bear had climbed a tree, so we were probably stuck with the bear for a while. We went for a walk along the creek a little later but the bear had (probably) moved on.
