2005/07 Alaska Trip - North to Alaska - K'san |

Our next stop was going to be the Indian villages at Hazleton and Kispiox, and we saw another bear, a small one, crossing the road on the way there. Hazleton is home to the restored village of K’san, with its cedar lodges and great totem poles.

John and Edna took the village tour, which takes you inside the lodges. We’d done this only last year, so we enjoyed the sunshine outside instead. This was good for pictures of the river and the mountains, but not for K’san itself, which I think looked moodier and better in last year’s storms and rain, more typical for the architecture.
Kispiox is just down the road, a modern day village but with an impressive line-up of totem poles. Last year this was the site of a village party, with the kids using the poles as soccer goalposts, but this year we had the site mostly to ourselves.
We stopped off at Moricetown again on our way back to Smithers and found that there was more fishing action, but not much of it successful. We also met a coyote on the road, but he turned out to be camera-shy.
