2005/07 Alaska Trip - North to Alaska - Minter Gardens |
|||||
Friday July 8th
The plan was for Friday to be an acclimatization day and for us all to go up to the high alpine meadows in Manning Park, but the day started wet, with heavy clouds obscuring the mountains, so Manning was out of the question.

We went to Minter Gardens instead, as that’s quite pretty even on a damp and dark day. So we wandered around amongst flowers and shrubs, getting progressively wetter. We were lucky to get lunch a few minutes before a power failure finished their cooking for the day, and then we were out again to soak any remaining dry body parts.
I suggested that this was a good time to visit nearby Bridal Falls as we couldn’t possibly get any wetter. The falls were running well with all the rain, but most of my photos were spoilt by rain and condensation and darkness. I’ve included just one of John and Edna enjoying the first full day of their holiday.
We were all going out that evening to the Canton Gardens. Edna was relieved to find that these “gardens” were a Chinese restaurant, and that the gardens had a roof!
