We spent one more weekend away for Grandma’s Marathon.  This time we took the trailer as the kids were coming up to join us.  We camped at Tettegouche state park as I had missed the opportunity to book for Gooseberry Falls by one day when we were in Australia.  The first day we could book for the Grandma's weekend was a Sunday in Australia and the local Internet cafe was closed.

Tettegouche is about 20 miles further up the north shore from Grandma’s start line but it has better campsites.  It has its own set of waterfalls on the Baptism River and a very scenic lakeshore around Shovel Point.  We were lucky enough to have sunshine every day.  Thewoods were full of flowers, a pretty time of the year.  Even better, the bugs were running late, and we had just a few mosquitoes and gnats, and none of the dreaded black flies.  The kids joined us at breakfast time on the Friday morning after working late at the night club.

I ran the marathon along with 9500 others on the Saturday morning, another sunny day, with a good breeze coming off the land.  The first 24 miles felt pretty good, and I thought that I was going to get a good time, but I seriously ran out of energy on the run down Duluth’s Superior Street, and could barely walk in a straight line, let alone continue running.  I finished OK with no injuries but much later than I’d hoped for.  After a large meal I was fit enough for some hiking.
