After a couple of weeks of all the chaos at home, the open road looked awfully tempting.  So we left whenever we could no longer stand the mess.  We took a few local trips on days when Sandie wasn’t working, one up to Carlos Avery Wildlife Refuge, and another to the Arboretum.

Carlos Avery
(1.32)

At Carlos Avery, we were a couple of weeks too late for the sandhill crane migration at Carlos Avery, but there were a couple of stragglers still there, along with some tundra swans, and a pair of nesting bald eagles.

Gyrfalcon (2.52)

We saw this bird though on the way home.  I think it’s a gyrfalcon, usually found in Ontario.  It must have developed a taste for Minnesotan snakes.

The Arboretum is where the University tries out plants in Minnesota’s climate.  If they can’t grow it, then you probably can’t either!  Of course, just because they can, doesn’t mean we can!
