FAMILY VERSION

Sandie and I took a slow drive through the park up to the north end, looking for emus.  We walked through the area where we’d seen them before, dense shrubberies and some open areas.  Most of the time we couldn’t see each other and then humans and emus would meet, or an emu would come charging across the trail and disappear into the shrubs again.  Bit like a Brian Rix farce.  The emus are about our height and much faster so this was an exciting few minutes.

We drove over to the northeast corner of the park, passing many kangaroos, a sign that it was getting late.  We hiked over to the beach at Miller’s Landing.  No other humans in the area, but lots of shy wallabies that would take off, boing boing boing through the forest whenever we got close.  Not so shy were the black cockatoos with yellow tails.  They’d swoop down the trail screaming at us, much too fast to get a camera shot.

Miller's Landing
(13.46)

Miller’s Landing was a completely different beach, protected from the big waves, out of the wind, and mostly covered by mangrove trees, with their funny little aerial roots poking out of the water.  The birds were different too, a flock of white ibis with their curved black beaks, and some black swans.  We finished the hike in the dark, and drove back very slowly as there were animals all around the edge of the road.
