2016/08 Newf'land trip - Hope |
|||||
On the high bridge over the Kicking Horse River, on our way to Golden, someone had managed to jackknife a truck and teardrop trailer, completely blocking the eastbound lanes with miles of backed up traffic The emergency vehicles had to use our side of the road, giving Sandie a scare.
We camped in Yard Creek park at Malakwa, just before Sicamous, a spot we’ve used before. It’s a cheap and quiet spot in the forest and not too cold; above freezing we hoped.
Tuesday September 13th
We had a cold morning but it didn’t freeze overnight. We were about four hours’ driving from Hope. It was a perfect warm day on the
Coquihalla, with patches of fall colours. We stopped for lunch on the banks of the Coldwater River, another of our favourite spots.
We were in time to pick up our two month mountain of mail. The house looked in good shape. Bob had been checking on it regularly for us. Someone had stayed the night, probably Wendy and Kelvin. Wes our neighbour had kept the grass under control and had swept up for us. We’d obviously had a bumper crop of apples; hopefully Bob and Pat had picked some of them. The climbers had taken over the patio.
It had been quite a trip, visiting friends and relatives in six places, traveling through eight provinces and fifteen states, grueling at times with 20000 K or 12000 miles driven, but a lot of fun.
