We were headed for Sydney, this time to visit a friend from my days at BEA in London. He lives in Thornleigh on the north side of Sydney so we just skirted the city and missed the usual tourist spots like the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.  The map showed there was a new motorway into that part of town, and we found out too late that it is a toll way.  But it took us to Lane Cove national park and its campground, where we were welcomed by yet another duck.  This one only had one leg.  Tough neighbourhood!

FAMILY VERSION

We called him and he was home, and very surprised to hear from us.  As his wife and family were out, we agreed to meet later that evening, and we used the spare time to take advantage of the campground’s laundry.

I took the wrong exit off the motorway, and we were only saved by the computer map, which helped us thread our way through the back roads, so we were only a little late. \

He gave us a “better” route back to Lane Cove, and we set off in total darkness and heavy rain down this twisty parkway.  Somewhere between the bends and hills, I managed to get my feet confused and almost fried the clutch, but we got back OK, certainly faster and cheaper than on our outbound trip.

Monday February 23rd

In the morning it was still raining but warm, so I went running anyway, along the trails through the national park.  It’s more like a city park actually, probably because it’s in a big city; if everything isn’t well organized, then it gets trampled by the hordes of people.  As a result, although the park is pretty in places it isn’t wild like most of the national parks.  We had breakfast at Thistlethwaytes picnic area – How English can you get?
