2004/02 Prom and the Wedding - Miller's Landing |

It rained all night and into mid-morning. The animals seem to stay out feeding later when it’s dull and wet, so we went back to see the kangaroos on Five Mile Road in better light, and then we hiked down to Miller’s Landing. This is a shallow lagoon on the north side of the park, ringed by groves of mangroves, very different from the rest of the Prom. Mangroves breathe through roots that stick up above water level, so they’re difficult to walk through, or wad
e through, come to that. Up on dry ground, there were wallabies on the trail, and even 
more thumping away through the undergrowth as we passed.
We took a long walk from there up to Verekers Outlook, another mountain top, this time with a pile of granite rocks and a view over the remote northeast area of the park.

We had yellow-tailed black cockatoos on this trip, and we 
could see a wedge-tailed eagle (a “wedgy”) through the trees, patrolling the peak. We also met this large ant, which was ready to take on my boot, moving to face me and protect the nest.
