After all this leisure we had to put some miles on, and we drove to Carrington, south to Lisbon, and then into the Sheyenne National Grassland, where we intended to camp. We were supposed to be able to camp there for free, but there was no road access.  We were bouncing around over farm roads, but had no way to get off those roads and into the grasslands.  If we camped on the road we’d probably have to explain ourselves to some farmer in a tractor at dawn, so we gave up and looked for an alternative.

By this time it was almost dark and we hurried back to Lisbon, dodging pheasants, grouse, turkeys, and even this Bambi.  A few miles south was Dead Colt Creek regional park, another dam site, and we found a spot there.

Friday July 27th
We were into Minnesota within an hour.  We called our friend Barb in Alexandria but no one was home, so we carried on to the Twin Cities.  We were home by mid-afternoon.
The house didn’t look too good when we first arrived, but to be fair to Michael, there had been a big storm the night before, dumping branches all over and smashing some of our patio furniture, and he’d been working the night before and that day.  Apart from that the house didn’t look too bad inside.  Except for the hole in the basement wall, of course.

It had been very dry.  All was brown except for the swamp and that had almost dried up at our end.  The house across the road is for sale again, through the “US-Asia” realty, so we’re likely to have Asian neighbours again.  Everyone was well – more news in the next letter.

Love to you all from Pete and Sandie
